Pico da Caledonia

Just finished the first day of a private 9 day birding tour. We spent the day birding at Pico da Caledonia and had a very successful day seeing all of our target birds! When we arrived at the base of the peak at around 1700m in altitude there was thick cloud and light drizzle, not the best of starts! However, as the day progressed we started seeing some great birds including Grey-winged Cotinga, Black and Gold Cotinga, Bay-chested Warbling Finch, Itatiaia Thistletail, Green-crowned Plovercrest, Mouse-coloured Tapaculo, Thich-billed Saltator, Rufous-tailed Antbird, Velvety-back Tyrant, Serra do Mar Tyrant-Manakin, Serra do Mar Tyrannulet, Brazilian Ruby, Rufous-capped Antshrike and Large-tailed Antshrike! We arrived back at the minibus around 15.45 and took a short drive to a spot where we saw Swallow-tailed Cotinga and Red-legged Seriema! An exhausting but great days birding!
